If you do not have the right mask when going diving it can become quite a bit annoying. Therefore, many divers do choose to travel maybe not with their own equipment but at least with their own mask when going on a dive holiday.
But how to find the right mask for you?
First of all it is important that you try on the mask before buying it. The mask needs to fit your face and the only way of finding out which one might be suitable for you is to put it actually on your face.
There are three things you should do when trying on a mask in your local dive shop:
1. Strap off 2. Look up 3. Inhale
Strap off: Place the strap of the mask in front of the mask when trying it on. Alternatively, you can of course as well take the whole strap off.
Look up: Move your head upwards and look up whilst having the mask on your face. Ensure that you have no hair caught between your mask and your face. The mask should comfortably and evenly sit around your face. If the front of the mask touches your skin e.g. forehead or closes up too much around your nose than you know it is not a good fit for you.
Inhale: With the mask in position, gently inhale, and then hold your breath. If the mask is made for your face, the mask should stay suctioned to your face without you holding it there. Shake your head; the mask should still stay stuck in place. Only when you exhale should the mask come off.
But do not worry if you do not have your own mask with you. We provide our guests with lots of different masks and finding one which fits your face will be guaranteed ;-).
