Ready for your next Dive Adventure?
The schedule for the Advanced Open Water course is flexible, and personalized depending on the elective dives you choose. Standards stipulate we can conduct 3 Adventure training dives in any one day. A typical schedule looks like this:
Day 1 – Orientation, Knowledge Development, Adventure Dives
We meet at 08:00 on Day 1. Your Instructor will conduct a short Orientation including completing some paperwork and a Medical Statement. This is the time we will discuss and choose the three elective dives you wish to make.
Unlike the Open Water course there is no exam. Instead each Adventure dive has a knowledge review. You will use the manual to complete the knowledge review before reviewing this with your Instructor. With some Adventure dives there are also some ‘land rehearsals’ prior to the dive.
After lunch you will go out on our dive car and complete two of your Adventure dives. The car departs around 13.30. Typically on the first day you will complete the Underwater Navigation dive which is mandatory. You will also complete a second Adventure such as Perfect Buoyancy, Fish ID, Search & Recovery or Underwater Naturalist.
The DPV Dive is the most popular elective dive in our Adventures in Diving Program. We schedule Night dives every second evening and assuming you choose this elective we will meet at 17:30.
We time our trip to the dive site to coincide with the sunset, ideally aiming to be in the water just before the sun completely goes down. This way the first few minutes of the dive, whilst you are becoming comfortable are a little easier as we are not in total darkness. Night diving is an amazing experience. You will see some species of marine life you have seen during the day light hours actually sleeping including the Titan Triggerfish. Other species such as hermit crabs and nocturnal stingrays are out foraging in the sand for food, Cuttle fish glow in your torch light and moving your arm slowly will reveal fluorescent phosphorescent plankton glowing in the darkness. You may also see Barracuda hunting for small fish and if you’re lucky you may even see them catch their prey in the light of your torch.
Day 2 – Advanced Course – Adventure Dives and Certification
Up bright and early, our dive car departs at 08.00 for the highlight of the Advanced Open Water course, the Deep Adventure Dive and the first opportunity for you to experience Nitrogen Narcosis!
We will visit one of the deeper laying dive sites such as Tulamben Drop off, Amed wall or Kubu reef, the best ‘advanced’ dive sites around. You will descend to a maximum depth of 30 meters and your Instructor will demonstrate the effects of pressure and how it affects us at depth.
You will also get to see a greater diversity of marine life than at some of the shallower dive sites. Some of Bali’s larger marine species such as Giant Barracuda, King Mackerel, Giant Grouper and sharks typically hang out at deeper sites.
You will then complete a second Adventure dive of the day. This is your final elective dive and amongst the more popular choices of dives are; Wreck, DPV.
Exploration, Excitement, Experiences
Here is a more detailed look at the Adventure Dives we currently offer at Fun Divers Bali as part of the Advanced Open Water course.
Experience Nitrogen Narcosis and the affects of pressure at depth. Find out which colors we lose first, and why your air consumption increases.
Feel the subtle effect narcosis has on your senses and understand the physiological effects of deeper diving. Dive planning for Deep dives requires additional safety procedures which you will learn.
You will plan a dive to a maximum depth of 30 meters, gaining valuable dive experience whilst under the supervision of one of our experienced Master Instructors.
Extending your dive limit to 30 meters will also mean you are certified to dive a greater variety of dive sites anywhere around the world.
Underwater Navigation Dive
Learn how to estimate distance and how to use natural features to navigate underwater. We will teach you correct positioning and handling of a compass and how to use a compass to navigate a reciprocal heading. You will finish by successfully navigating a square. You will feel much more confident in your ability to find you way underwater after this dive.
Peak Performance Buoyancy (Perfect Buoyancy)
Buoyancy is the most important skill a diver needs. Better buoyancy means more control and improved air consumption.Good buoyancy allows you to become a safer diver and avoid damaging the marine environment. The Perfect Buoyancy Adventure dive will teach you how to better streamline yourself whilst diving. As well as improving your air consumption we will practice hovering and swimming techniques. You will be amazed with your improvement after this dive and how much more effortless your diving becomes.
Drop into a whole new world and watch it come to life under the glow of your torch. The Night Adventure dive is the most popular elective dives on the Advanced Open water course. We will teach you light handling and communication techniques plus entry and exiting in the dark.
We will also ask you to navigate a reciprocal heading, a skill you have mastered during the day, as part of the Underwater Navigation Adventure dive.
You will see some species of marine life retiring for the night, whilst others such as crustaceans and mollusks venture from their day time hiding places for night time feasts.
Interested in excitement and exploration? Take a fascinating look into the past with the most popular choice for an Adventure dive in Bali. You will learn how to plan wreck dives that are deeper than 18 meters as well as all the necessary equipment considerations.
You will also learn how to avoid potential hazards common to wrecks including entanglement and the highlight is a completing the dive on the USAT liberty wreck.
Search & Recovery
For the more practical minded and task orientated diver the Search & Recovery Adventure dive is a must do! Learn how to tie a variety of different knots, operate lift bags to bring various objects to the surface and use a compass to perform underwater searches. The Search & Recovery Adventure dive is challenging but lots of fun!
Driver Propulsion Vehicle (DPV)
DPV’s are a great way to see more of the dive site. They scoot you through the water, allowing you to glide over coral reefs or around Wrecks. During this dive we will teach you correct entry, exit, descent and ascent techniques with a DPV.
You will also learn how to perform maneuvers underwater as well as the correct safety techniques. For divers that like excitement, the DPV Adventure dive is for you.
**We are the ony dive center in the area to rent DPV in the course!
AWARE – Fish Identification (Fish ID)
Have you ever been underwater and asked yourself ‘what is that? The Fish Identification Adventure dive will help you with the basics, so next time you will know the answer to the question. Being able to recognize the marine life makes your diving so much more interesting and fun.
The best part about this dive is the knowledge and skills you learn can be used on every scuba vacation because once you learn the main fish families and characteristics you will be able to figure out the species you see all over the world.
Enriched Air – Nitrox
Want to spend even longer underwater. Why not enriched your dive experience and learn how to use Enriched Air Nitrox as part of you Advanced Open Water course.
The Enriched Air adventure dive teaches you how to analyse your Enriched air fills to determine the oxygen content in the blend. We will also show you how to verify cylinder content data and of course execute a dive on Enriched Air.
The greater understanding you have of the aquatic environment the more you will savour the sights you encounter. Go beyond simple Fish Identification. On the Underwater Naturalist Adventure dive we will teach you how to locate, observe and identify fish, animals and plants.
Here in east Bali 90% of dives we make from shore. The Boat Adventure dive teaches you specifics about dive boats including correct terminology, emergency procedures, safety equipment and correct entry/exit techniques. The local boat rent is about IDR 100,000-200,000 per person for 2 dives depending on the distance of the dive sites.
If you have rent a boat why not to have a drift dive adventure? You gonna master the use of SMB, enjoy a long distance of coral reef effortlessly as the current is pushing you along the reef, it will be a exciting experience! A good communication and cooperation with the boat crew will be very important to make sure they gonna pick you where you end up! Availability depends on currents of the day.
