The Open Water Course, let’s take a closer look at each step in detail:

We start the Open water diver course at 08:00 every day. To begin with your Instructor will conduct a course orientation. Starting with some introductions before informing you of the course schedule and asking you to complete some paperwork including the Medical Statement.

The Knowledge Development

This section of the Open Water diver course consists of a series of videos and chapters, Instructor led knowledge review sessions and multiple choice question quizzes. There are several modules in total. The final module finishes with a multiple choice exam.

The subjects covered include scuba equipment, safe dive practices, effects of pressure underwater, the buddy system and basic decompression theory. You will also learn about dive planning using Dive Planner and we will teach you how dive computers work. This will enable you to safely plan your dives, and keep to your dive profile during each dive.

Confined Water Training

All our confined water training sessions are conducted in one of our purpose built swimming pools. The very definition of confined water training means a swimming pool is without doubt the best place to conduct these sessions both from a safety and comfort perspective.

We’ll start in very shallow water gradually getting deeper (no more than three meters) as your confidence increases. Your instructor will demonstrate skills which you will practice back, designed to get you comfortable using scuba gear.

Scuba skills will include:

  • Equipment Assembly

  • Pre dive safety checks

  • Mask & regulator clearing

  • Alternative Air source Use

  • Buoyancy control

  • Communicating and underwater hand signals

  • Descents and Ascents

Special Attention! Don’t settle for anything less than the best. Some dive centers may tell you that it’s best to complete confined water in the ocean. On a perfect day, completing some aspects of confined water in a shallow bay can be fun and exciting but when you are breathing from scuba for the first time, naturally feeling a little apprehensive and nervous, and being asked to complete skills such as removing and replacing the mask or regulator underwater, the guaranteed calm and clear conditions a swimming pool offers is necessary. Shallow bays are not ideal if there is any wind, waves, poor visibility or other environmental conditions that will negatively affect the safety or comfort of either student or Instructor. And here around Tulamben and Amed area in Bali, shallow water of the sea get wavy quite often, the numerous interruptions are not conducive to teaching beginners scuba.

Our swimming pools are purpose built for scuba diving and offer you the best possible start on your way to becoming a Open Water diver. Don’t settle for anything less than the best.
